The Ideal Location for a Short Break 

The Westhoek Region of Belgium is ideal for walkers and cyclists alike (including bikers!). Cherry Blossom is the ideal place to stop on the cycling route. There are many places to explore; St Sixtus Abbey Brewery (15-20mins drive or 30-40mins cycle), a V1 rocket site, an Otter sanctuary (about 30 mins drive) with lots of walks and cycle paths.

Travelling to Northern France, Spain, Holland, Austria or Germany we are situated in the ideal overnight stop point. Good shopping can be found in the nearby medieval city of Ieper (Ypres) synonymous with the First World War.

Within an hour you will find the major towns and cities of Ghent, Brugge and Lille (in Lille there is also the Eurostar Terminal).

For adults and children alike there is an excellent theme park in nearby Bellewaerde Park - www.bellewaerdepark.be. Local swimming pools can be found in Poperinge and Ieper. A Go-Kart track is located in Poperinge.

Not far north you will find a beautiful sandy coastline and the Bray Dunes (Brayduinen) near Dunkirk (Dunkerque); a reknown kite flying and kite-surfing spot. Adinkerque is also nearby and Knocke (30 mins).

A motor car rally is held every year in Ieper (part of the WRC championships) www.ypresrally.com. If you are wishing to visit the battlefields it is a good time to avoid as the area gets very crowded both in the main town and surrounding areas.

Every three years the Kattenstoet (Cat Festival) takes place in Ieper. This is a major festival and tourists from all over the world flock to view the grand parade and events that take place over the weekend in May. For more information see www.ieper.be.

Motorbike Friendly!

The Salient is a great region for touring on motorbike and we often welcome bikers either on their own or as part of larger groups. We have plenty of off-road parking and space to store your equipment! Tours can also be arranged with a local biker guide to show you the Battlefields of Ypres.
